.....And how nicely it all seems to be coming together!

 Not quite a week ago, I 'knew' that from all my workshop classes, I'd get the most out of using my bone setter visit in China as the main theme from which I felt I would get the most laughs.  I wrote the first draft.  It was awful - didn't even last through the first reading.

Draft # 2 was too short, far too short.  Drafts 3 and '3A' brought me to a solid 5 minutes.  Today I added physical comedy - I'm going to 'go to school' over the next week on Andy Kaufman You Tube videos and learn the choreography I need to 'introduce' me.......then comes the script........and it all will end with some 'commentary' about the book..........I AM HAPPY WITH THIS - AND WILL DO A FULL SCRIPTED PERFORMANCE ON WEDNESDAY EVENING, 30 APRIL TO THE OTHER MEMBERS OF MY COMEDY WORKSHOP WRITERS CIRCLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...........while I am not writing about it yet, in the (far, far more than just) planning stage is my 19 May - 29 May trip to Japan.  I am returning to 10 days of doing everything I never thought I'd have the opportunity to do again - especially in the style in which I'll be doing it!!!

For the first time I am departing LAX at a reasonable hour of the day and arriving in Tokyo at a reasonable hour of the afternoon.  This happens again upon departing - I simply cannot recall ever having this option before.....and I still have my APEC card for arrival and my Pasmo transportation card for Japan.

Will it be my 'Last Hurrah' for international travel?  Life could be a whole lot worse- I have LA PHIL & Opera.....I have BroadStage.......I'm more than content with this as my lifestyle.....

Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting! Opera competition audio/Miami-Washington in right hand corner thumbnail/this blog on the remainder of the screen

 My radio station of choice is WQXR and on this Saturday morning, the Metropolitan Opera's annual competition is on, live from the Met - nothing but popular arias for the next 90 minutes.....I like that! I do not get either Dodger or Angel games - local black outs apply....but I get the other 28 MLB teams and games - this is the best at 10:21am in L.A, And obviously, I am writing now.....! Last night, finally, I went to the Broad Stage for an evening performance:  the Spring Recital of the vocal classes at Santa Monica College.  This was held, not in the Broad Stage building but the classroom building next door where there was a small (250 seats??) theatre in which a 'graduation' gig, similar to the one I did for stand-up at the Improv, at which 21 performers, ranging in age from 18-19 year-olds through a few who definitely were in theur 60s, did their thing.  Community education here offers one the opportunity to get involved in ways I never anticipated prior to com...
