Suppose they gave a war and nobody came.........

........and along those very same lines, suppose I did a comic gig and no one laughed.  That is not a remote possibility because there are some things that are funny enough that even I cannot fuck it up, no matter how experienced I am in fucking things up beyond all recognition.  But this is a way - at least - of saying that I now have my script and know what I want to do in the time I have allocated to my gig on the 17th of May.  I am reading it through - with emotion - three times a day.....I expect that I will have memorized it by the time of performance and memorized it well enough that it is 'me' and not an actor doing the script........

Suppose I wrote a great book and no one read it.  That, sadly, is closer to reality.  With Joanna's reading everything I wrote from inception, I found the target audience to write to this time and it was the best stuff I'd ever written.   True, the editing (or substantial lack thereof) for the ebook was horrendous but I then did that stupidly herculean task of re-editing for the print edition.  It was a good editing job that also put me in the hospital......yet as an octogenarian (with Joanna, Doug Smigh and Michael Janich's help) I got it all done......and it was good........and I did nationwide podcasts and they were favorably reviewed.........and now, while only Good-Bye and Thank-You! is in the Santa Monica Public Library (and the Salina, Kansas Public Library, too!), The Los Angeles County Library has all eight of my books..........and at least two books are in the British Library so I should not really fret - I've gotten exposure and as a writer, what more should I really want - of course book sales would definitely help.....

Since discretion is the better part of not wanting to be blacklisted by bookstores, I will neither write anything satirical or cynical nor do anything in stand-up about bookstores, independent publishing and local activities.  I have set aside my bookstore aspirations and will do my stand-up gig on the 17th of May and get that posted to the volume of stuff about me if one were to do a Google Search.   But it is time to get on with my life and do the other things I want to do before my days end.....oh, they'll end as they do for all......but I definitely want to accomplish a whole lot more in life before that day happens!
