3-1/2 days left.....

 Yesterday, exhaustion caught up with me - after 4 days in a row of 15,000 steps a day, I simply could not function - Joanna and Zhiwei joined me for teppanyaki at the 51st floor restaurant in the Sumitomo Building in Shinjuku.  After, we went to a 7 floor art house supply store where I could have spent so much more time, looking at cakes of watercolor paints  that are not available in the States.   I thought that Blick Art Supply was a big store - it looks like a small, 'mamma/pappa' store compared to where I was, yesterday.  I surprised myself:  my total purchase was less than 5,000 yen!   

Tonight we go to the Blue Note for a 6pm dinner show.  Tomorrow we go to Jingu Stadium for a baseball game.  Tomorrow morning I return to the barber shop I used to go to - shave and a haircut time!.........and if I can find it (assuming it is still there) I will go to the Hall of Fame Cafe where I spent so many happy moments during prior trips here.   This has been a fun trip, a good one!!!

Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting! Opera competition audio/Miami-Washington in right hand corner thumbnail/this blog on the remainder of the screen

 My radio station of choice is WQXR and on this Saturday morning, the Metropolitan Opera's annual competition is on, live from the Met - nothing but popular arias for the next 90 minutes.....I like that! I do not get either Dodger or Angel games - local black outs apply....but I get the other 28 MLB teams and games - this is the best at 10:21am in L.A, And obviously, I am writing now.....! Last night, finally, I went to the Broad Stage for an evening performance:  the Spring Recital of the vocal classes at Santa Monica College.  This was held, not in the Broad Stage building but the classroom building next door where there was a small (250 seats??) theatre in which a 'graduation' gig, similar to the one I did for stand-up at the Improv, at which 21 performers, ranging in age from 18-19 year-olds through a few who definitely were in theur 60s, did their thing.  Community education here offers one the opportunity to get involved in ways I never anticipated prior to com...
