Deceiving weather.....

The temperature should have been hotter than it was when I got up at 7am.  Yesterday's 'prediction' showed 15 or 16 degrees (C) at 7:30......only it was 11!  The beach was in fog - weather for biking sucked.......such is life.....still, I got an hour of riding in - I love that!!!!!

And then I finally got to meet my new primary care physician at UCLA Health - Jeffrey Fujimoto.  We went through the 'normal', first meeting stuff and then he asked if I wanted to do blood testing today.  I had always assumed that were I to have breakfast (which I did before the meeting), then no blood to be taken.  Fujimoto said it really made no difference......so in came the techie who scared out my veins sufficient to draw 8 vials of blood.  Then there was the scheduling and updating of specialists, et al.......

All in all, I am happy to finally be getting up to date at UCLA........had they not gotten their act together, frankly, I would leave for St Johns.........

It is no1 noon and it is 24 degrees (C) in Santa Monica.  TianTian is still here and we'll soon go to the Sawtelle area for lunch........

Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting! Opera competition audio/Miami-Washington in right hand corner thumbnail/this blog on the remainder of the screen

 My radio station of choice is WQXR and on this Saturday morning, the Metropolitan Opera's annual competition is on, live from the Met - nothing but popular arias for the next 90 minutes.....I like that! I do not get either Dodger or Angel games - local black outs apply....but I get the other 28 MLB teams and games - this is the best at 10:21am in L.A, And obviously, I am writing now.....! Last night, finally, I went to the Broad Stage for an evening performance:  the Spring Recital of the vocal classes at Santa Monica College.  This was held, not in the Broad Stage building but the classroom building next door where there was a small (250 seats??) theatre in which a 'graduation' gig, similar to the one I did for stand-up at the Improv, at which 21 performers, ranging in age from 18-19 year-olds through a few who definitely were in theur 60s, did their thing.  Community education here offers one the opportunity to get involved in ways I never anticipated prior to com...
