It's overcast on Saturday.......a rainy weekend ahead?

 It is Saturday......I walked my ass off during the past three days:  15,000 steps a day!   And I am tired!!!

Staying in luxury is both expensive and limiting:  there are no alternatives nearby the hotel for breakfast.  12 years ago, the restaurants that opened at 8am - if they are still there, now open at 10am.   The nearest Family Mart is close to a half-mile away.   And this is a tea culture - no coffee machine here in my room.....dammit!

On Monday, for the third time I will go to the Ginza Muji Flagship store, a venue without English language assistance where I have already spent over 3 hours in search of items that they simply do not sell here in Japan - what Katherine wanted were items for export only........and Muji's VAT system is awful.  Such is life.

Today - if it does not rain - we'll go bike riding in Kanagawa.  The riding culture here is quite different from that which I have experienced in Santa Monica:  bike helmets are a rarity and most riding is on the sidewalks......strange......

Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting! Opera competition audio/Miami-Washington in right hand corner thumbnail/this blog on the remainder of the screen

 My radio station of choice is WQXR and on this Saturday morning, the Metropolitan Opera's annual competition is on, live from the Met - nothing but popular arias for the next 90 minutes.....I like that! I do not get either Dodger or Angel games - local black outs apply....but I get the other 28 MLB teams and games - this is the best at 10:21am in L.A, And obviously, I am writing now.....! Last night, finally, I went to the Broad Stage for an evening performance:  the Spring Recital of the vocal classes at Santa Monica College.  This was held, not in the Broad Stage building but the classroom building next door where there was a small (250 seats??) theatre in which a 'graduation' gig, similar to the one I did for stand-up at the Improv, at which 21 performers, ranging in age from 18-19 year-olds through a few who definitely were in theur 60s, did their thing.  Community education here offers one the opportunity to get involved in ways I never anticipated prior to com...
