Rayban - Meta?

 What a joy to be in a seaside beach city on a day like yesterday.........in a word:  wonderful!  But today we'll have a high of 25 and we'll be back down to what the previous week's weather was like if the advance forecasts are to be met......such is life.......when we moved here I purchased and set up a mini-Weber kettle bar b que.....and have yet to use it because it's been so fucking cold - perhaps not for others but for me, too damned cold to have the patience necessary to do things the right way.

One more book to go:  I have about 100 pages left of Heartwood by Amity Gage.  I'm reading this on my Kindle - now that I can get Kobo on my Fire, I will use both the Kindle and Kobo apps on both my computer (Surface) and the Fire......and I'll let Joanna get my phone and Fire linked to work outside while in Japan..........and await TianTian's working with me on the MacBookPro the next time he's here in LA.......

So what's after completion of Heartwood?   Source Code, Bill Gates' memoir.....hard cover that I purchased from our second visit to Costco.........how 'unAmerican' - we've been here so long but only been to Costco twice..........

Thoughts of WQXR...........I grew up to radio, with WQXR being listened to, growing up in Brooklyn.   Deja vu:  I have WQXR on iHeart radio, now, on the Fire, as I type.........WQXR and the Dodgers - I grew up to baseball on WOR.  Now I listen to the Dodgers again....and the tension about what will happen exists on radio and one's imagination....that is simply not the case with television........hurray for radio!

Oh.....and what about Rayban?    I do have to try their glasses - the option of wearing sunglasses that, with the tap of a finger, takes a picture while riding is something to be considered......how good is the quality?   This should be investigated......I hope.......

Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting! Deja vu - Spring Street

 Once upon a time I spent a whole lot of time downtown - DTLA.   The was before there was even a section of the city known as DTLA.  In the early 60s, as a student in L.A., I had a part time job for an office equipment leasing company that was located on Spring Street, then, the primary business street of Los Angeles.   I took the E Line to 7th Street and then walked past Grand (and Botega Louie) Avenue to Spring Street.  I passed Clifton's Cafeteria - with that picture showing up on my phone but not the computer - and the jewelry district, getting to what was formerly the legal and financial business centre of LA.  Those buildings are now lofts and some of them look quite interesting for a home conveniently located if one works in that area.  I also passed The Last Book Store - not there when I was there but definitely a place worthy of going back to - best used book store I've seen - in the US!!! Phillipe's has a better french dip than Cole...
