Am I writing?

 Coincidence??  Three people who know me but not one another have asked me this past week if I am writing, after having seen or heard of my baseball piece as well as my books.......

No, not really.  That'd be my answer.....but I've been seriously thinking about it as I have been thinking about open mics and doing stand-up.  Hey, that's going to involve some serious writing as I have several 'themes' that I'd like to work out - writing and then, hopefully, sharing with some kindred spirits who would let me know their thoughts - not the thoughts they'd think I'd want to hear.......I can write funny for myself.  I can rehearse it daily during my afternoon walks.  But then I need the open mics to see if there is any reaction to my 'presentation' and whether I have to perfect the timing or the wording....or abandon that tag as hopeless and add something else.

The Trip, a Thursday night open mic is there for me to get some practice.  I was there once.  It doesn't get any more 'low minor league' than this........Would I be the only comic amongst vocalist?  That would be the start. I can manage the transportation by myself.

Tuesday nights at 10pm, ONLY for comics - a 3 minute open mic in down town Santa Monica.  At least that's what the Santa Monica Daily Press has been reporting for a while in its weekly calendars.  I think I can manage transportation both ways.   I need to develop good routines from three or four different 3 minute open mic sessions and.......

Work this into routines that I'd further practice at a Sunday afternoon open mic at the Mint.........

Ah.....if I could seriously work at this, in three or four months I'd be ready for the clubs..........can I do it?

And while doing this, I also am doing small writing bits on my blog..........preparing myself for doing another big essay......soon!

7 Baseball

It is late morning on a wet Saturday as the rains - more than a drizzle but not enough for me to consider taking an umbrella with me were I to go out - have been (more or less) steady since early morning, yesterday.  I'm gonna be indoors all day, today - still in my pajamas - no need to go out.......and our small home is pleasantly, comfortably warm - with a thermal vest atop the pj tops as the central heating keeps our place warm. Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting!
