And so it begins: Holiday week 2025!

 Here it is, another year, another end of year and holiday season.  Happiness is being alive and looking forward to the coming year.  

And yet, I'm also thinking back - I'm an old fart now but a decade ago I was also an old fart - what was that holiday season like - as best as I can remember it......?  2015 going into 2016?

As best I can recall, it is definitely the year before that stands out because I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in December 2014 and 2015 was a year of treatment.  Twice during the first half of the year, I had re-growth of those nasty cells.  Thus, BCG Treatment and things were quiet towards the end of 2015.

As there was not that much changed between this year and the prior year vis a vis US taxation for those outside of the country but still liable for filing, I did those minor updates while doing a massive spell and grammar check and that 2016 tax stuff was the best I'd written/edited......but added to that was the 60 plus page mini-memoir.  Together, these were the anticipated 7th and final book of my writing career............

Little did I expect Good-Bye and Thank-You!

I'm an essayist and I still hope to write essays.

I enjoy holiday season and I still hope to enjoy many more holiday seasons!!!

7 Baseball

It is late morning on a wet Saturday as the rains - more than a drizzle but not enough for me to consider taking an umbrella with me were I to go out - have been (more or less) steady since early morning, yesterday.  I'm gonna be indoors all day, today - still in my pajamas - no need to go out.......and our small home is pleasantly, comfortably warm - with a thermal vest atop the pj tops as the central heating keeps our place warm. My life is intertwined with baseball tying so much more than the game into it.  Yeah, 'Baseball is Life'.........I wish I still had that T shirt!  I have been on a baseball odyssey from sometime in September, 1944 when my mother and her sisters Sarah and Faye  and 4 cousins attended Ladies Day at Ebbetts Field where the St Louis Cardinals beat the Brooklyn Dodgers.   Of course I don't remember it!  But it is what I do remember from 18 September 1947 on - far more than just the Dodgers and World Series matters.  I have h...

Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting!
