.....and on Friday it got cold again.....

 29 degrees outside yesterday - too hot.......and the humidity is always there to remind you how uncomfortable it can get here........the lack of humidity in Santa Monica is something we took for granted......

23 degrees will be the high for today....21 and rain tomorrow.....dammit!

Regardless, it is now 6:24am.  I got up with the light of dawn, shortly after 5am when it was daylight here.  Last night the three of us had Cantonese food with Shanghai spices.  It was a nice evening!  I got back to the hotel and took a bath.  Joanna and Ziwei took an evening walk.  Joanna came back after- I was already fast asleep.

Today I hope to get to Ochanomizu and do some 'deja vu' walking through the areas I once strolled in Tokyo.  I will try to get to the Hall of Fame Cafe for lunch.   Tonight......a jazz club???

Two days behind, I just watched PBS Evening News.  The House Republicans just passed Trump Tax 2025...........America was once an ideal.....now, with it turning to autocracy, it is pitiful.  In 1968 I was 26 years old and an activist against US involvement in Vietnam........I was arrested three times.   In 2025, as a witness to the lunacy that is taking place, I have not hesitated to call Trump an economic moron........and even though I might have offended some, I will continue to espouse what I believe in - and sadly realize that free speech in America will soon disappear.....

Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting! Opera competition audio/Miami-Washington in right hand corner thumbnail/this blog on the remainder of the screen

 My radio station of choice is WQXR and on this Saturday morning, the Metropolitan Opera's annual competition is on, live from the Met - nothing but popular arias for the next 90 minutes.....I like that! I do not get either Dodger or Angel games - local black outs apply....but I get the other 28 MLB teams and games - this is the best at 10:21am in L.A, And obviously, I am writing now.....! Last night, finally, I went to the Broad Stage for an evening performance:  the Spring Recital of the vocal classes at Santa Monica College.  This was held, not in the Broad Stage building but the classroom building next door where there was a small (250 seats??) theatre in which a 'graduation' gig, similar to the one I did for stand-up at the Improv, at which 21 performers, ranging in age from 18-19 year-olds through a few who definitely were in theur 60s, did their thing.  Community education here offers one the opportunity to get involved in ways I never anticipated prior to com...
