Two days of great weather......what does this portend?

 Is it just another mirage giving us false hope that there'll be a summer-like weather for a while?  Yesterday was great - After TianTian came in from the north, we went to Din Tai Feng in Santa Monica (with $15 parking - no one listened when I suggested we take the bus) and the whole afternoon was simply wonderful, with temperature high enough and winds low enough for me to shed the jacket and just wear the sweater outside.....it was nice!

The weather continued - I was up at 7:30am today with the temperature already at 14 degrees (C) and a cloudless, bright, sunny sky above.....time to go biking along the beach even though it was not yet Friday - hey, if tomorrow turns out to be lousy, at least I'll have gotten in a great morning as the paths were finally cleared of sand dunes and it was still too early for many to be out....today was a perfect day to spend an hour of slow, casual cycling by the beach.

.......and if it is like this tomorrow, then I sure as hell will be out early tomorrow morning to take advantage of the weather!  I am content to bike the same path along the beach forever and ever and ever - how tranquil the world is, when one is enjoying the solitude of the ocean and the beach - the antithesis of 33 years of life in urban Asia.

Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting! Opera competition audio/Miami-Washington in right hand corner thumbnail/this blog on the remainder of the screen

 My radio station of choice is WQXR and on this Saturday morning, the Metropolitan Opera's annual competition is on, live from the Met - nothing but popular arias for the next 90 minutes.....I like that! I do not get either Dodger or Angel games - local black outs apply....but I get the other 28 MLB teams and games - this is the best at 10:21am in L.A, And obviously, I am writing now.....! Last night, finally, I went to the Broad Stage for an evening performance:  the Spring Recital of the vocal classes at Santa Monica College.  This was held, not in the Broad Stage building but the classroom building next door where there was a small (250 seats??) theatre in which a 'graduation' gig, similar to the one I did for stand-up at the Improv, at which 21 performers, ranging in age from 18-19 year-olds through a few who definitely were in theur 60s, did their thing.  Community education here offers one the opportunity to get involved in ways I never anticipated prior to com...
