1 18/18-2&1 4.........and 1 7 1 (or 1 7 E Line)

 On a balmy Santa Monica Saturday, after bike riding and handling that which was on my calendar for the day, we went to Montana Avenue once again (#1 BBB to Lincoln where we caught the #18 BBB) regarding Katherine's earring repair.  Going home, we started with the 18 and then Katherine took the #2 BBB at Wilshire to go to Whole Food.  I went home, catching the #4 Metro because it was, in essence, an express bus trip this way.

After taking care of 'essentials', I joined Katherine at Whole Foods and then Trader Joe's, walking home to drop off our purchases prior to catching the #1 to Sawtelle where we'll go again on Monday afternoon for a late lunch.  Only I will go one short block south of Santa Monica Blvd on Sawtelle where Nina's, a small Mexican canteen where I had chili rellano last week.  Katherine will take the #17, going to Olympic Blvd and just south of Olympic, Panda Express where she had fond memories of eating a generation ago at Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks.  After, she'll go north and I'll go south and we'll meet for both Daiso and Nijiya Market prior to walking south again, stopping first at ERBA's Sawtelle  weed outlet (for me, obviously) and then, at Big Tomy's - another great food option for us - taking either the #7 BBB that goes along Pico Blvd to 4th Street where it then goes north, making a right turn at Santa Monica Blvd where we'd transfer to the #1 to go home.........or we'd walk a couple of extra blocks to the Expo Sepulveda E Line Station and take the train to 26th Street/Bergamot Station to go to Ralph's Market prior to walking home.

Yesterday we took the #7 and #1 home.  This morning. after my bike ride and breakfast, I walked to Ralph's Market where I took advantage of an internet coupon and got two cantaloupe's for $3.00.    

There!  My exercise in writing minutia for the day.  For the balance of today?  Let us see:  Katherine wants to do some heavy duty cleaning toady.  That means I am not truly welcome at home......It's nice out today - time for another photoshoot?

Watching Freddie

 I started early today and while I anticipated a light day, it was 'more involved' than I anticipated.  John Achorn acted his way through chapters 19-22 of Huck Finn.  We discussed the LA Times sponsored Festival of Books at which Percival Everett, author of James, spoke.  For Summer session (8 weeks), we are going to read Raymond Carver short stories.  We were also asked for our input regarding choice of authors for the Fall semester. I got home just as Freddie's class began.  The legions of women watercolor painters who simply adore Freddie Manseau makes his Zoom class quite entertaining.  Freddie is a true character - the extent to which he plays up on this to keep his classes large is open to conjecture but regardless, I am enjoying painting! Deja vu - Spring Street

 Once upon a time I spent a whole lot of time downtown - DTLA.   The was before there was even a section of the city known as DTLA.  In the early 60s, as a student in L.A., I had a part time job for an office equipment leasing company that was located on Spring Street, then, the primary business street of Los Angeles.   I took the E Line to 7th Street and then walked past Grand (and Botega Louie) Avenue to Spring Street.  I passed Clifton's Cafeteria - with that picture showing up on my phone but not the computer - and the jewelry district, getting to what was formerly the legal and financial business centre of LA.  Those buildings are now lofts and some of them look quite interesting for a home conveniently located if one works in that area.  I also passed The Last Book Store - not there when I was there but definitely a place worthy of going back to - best used book store I've seen - in the US!!!
