World Cup
The last time I was in Inglewood, CA, the Lakers played at the Forum, there were no LA Clippers or local pro football teams.....there was ONLY the Forum and Hollywood Park where Irv and I spent many, many, many a time.........
Now the Clippers have there own arena there and there are two LA pro-football teams in a new stadium. I am so close but so far from desiring to be with a crowd anymore....and qute content to watch World Cup matches across the street from our house, in the St John's Hospital Community Room with an 18' x 9' screen.
Joanna was born mid-May, 1994. Two weeks later I started doing mid-night - early morning bottle supplemental feedings, watching a whole lot of World Cup matches from Los Angeles as I held Joanna and bottle in the living room ofour 7th floor apartment in Shekou, China.
I'm a Deadhead, you all know that, I got my kicks from partying before, during and after Grateful Dead concerts and festivals. Hey - it is the same thing for NASCAR or F-1 or the New Orleans Jazz Festival or the World Series or Superbowl..........People want to party - especially if they can afford it.......and if you saw the prices that FIFA is gauging from people all over the world who can afford it - and saw so many visitors here in our beach city, having fun.........
Of course I recognize the rest of the world, so many struggling daily.........with both a current domestic and international bundle of political problems that no one seems willing to face.......
Regardless, I do weekly volunteer work at St Johns Hospital, right across the street from where we live (but it still takes a while to get there as we must encounter the world's slowest traffic light) and discovered that the chief electrician there was a soccer fan, willing to put in extra hours to keep that 18' x 9' ultra-hi-def screen showing all matches.
The last time World Cup was in the States, I watched matches from Los Angeles on TV from China. This time, I'm still watching matches from Los Angeles but the screen is larger, the reception is superior......and I live across the street!
